About Good Samaritan Ministries
Good Samaritan Ministries was founded by Dr. Michael D. McClary and his late wife, Janet, in the summer of 1987. Armed only with his King James Bible and the call of God on His life, Dr. McClary began a journey of service to His Lord. Dr. McClary, himself a product of the destruction and devastation that the abuse of drugs and alcohol will bring, accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in 1982 at the Union Mission in Norfolk, Virginia. Since then, he has never looked back. While serving on staff as both a chaplain and evening supervisor at the mission, Dr. McClary took correspondence courses in Biblical Theology and was eventually ordained to preach in 1985. After a brief time of preparation as the chaplain of the Peninsula Rescue Mission in Newport News, Virginia, Dr. McClary was led to Richmond, Virginia, to start an inner city outreach to those in need of a “touch from the Master’s hand.”
Good Samaritan Ministries is a Christian Mission that helps people trapped in homelessness, poverty, and addiction get their lives back and become productive members of our community. Our ministry goes beyond toxic charity that just meets temporary needs but leaves a person still trapped in the situation that had wrecked their lives. We address the needs of the whole person, emergency and long-term.
Feeding the Hungry
Good Samaritan Ministries serves thousands of hot meals every year. In addition to feeding the residents of our residential programs, we serve special meals during the holiday season and provide food boxes for needy families for Christmas and Thanksgiving. Many times, the journey to a changed life begins with a hot meal.
Changing Lives
Good Samaritan Ministries is all about helping those who have lost their way find hope and new life through the power of the gospel. In addition to helping all the graduates of our ministry who have moved on to live productive and meaningful lives, this same gospel that changed their lives has also changed the lives of the staff at GSM. Many of our staff have come through the GSM’s Discipleship Program and are now living lives of impact and fruitfulness. Good Samaritan Ministries is proof that God is still in the business of changing lives.
